I've saved water
Just by doing these two simple actions.Great!
I have to admit- before reading this I had a habit of over-filling the kettle, but doing this acction has made me realise how quick it takes to boil AND how much water I ATUALLY waste!always
I have been doing it since some time. Why boil more than needed? Takes more time (sooo important in the mornings) :-) 26 February 2011, 01:19designer kettle
ho ho ho! I've taken a permanent marker and marked down on my kettle how much water makes how many cups! Now I can also evil-eye my flatmate if he gets it wrong =Ddon't over fill your kettle
i have done this and my mum tells me off because i over fill the mug that she has her tea in 25 June 2010, 08:58dont over fill your kettle
i usualy make the the cups of tea and i use the exact amount of water it needs 25 June 2010, 08:34why
why do people do that is macks i so much longer 14 May 2010, 11:24Choice with possitive side effects.
I recently decides to start drinking tea without milk, so as to save money but mainly loose weight, a side effect of this is ive noticed i chose to have less cups of tea and so use the kettle alot less, adding this in with only using as much as i need has made me feel better about the energy bill of the household and well hoping weight it lost soon to so yea. Yay! 25 April 2010, 20:42New kettle
When we replaced our old kettle we chose one that was energy efficient and had clear markings for number of cups onside. As we have recently been given an energy monitor by British Gas we are very aware of which household items use a lot of power. The kettle is very energy hungry so it makes sense to just boil what you need and no more. 08 April 2010, 08:57This one has changed my life!
A cup full of water boils so quickly-who knew?! I'm NEVER over filling a kettle again. 28 March 2010, 03:14s
i dont really drink a lot of hot drinks ....20 March 2010, 15:05
Simply rational
I don't get it! What's the advantage to overfilling a kettle? No advantage. A slower cup of tea. What also riles me is when people boil the kettle, leave the room, come back and flick the kettle back on. The water WILL still be hot after 5 minutes. I'm a kettle Nazi at home. 14 March 2010, 15:14
dan-ger-ous
one time i overfilled the kettle and when it had finished boiling in the kettle, the water inside started to bubble up and spill out of the kettle because there was too much water inside of it, and some water splattered on me and burnt me. 15 February 2010, 21:36COFFEEEEEEE!!!
I was asked to make the hot drink for the staff meeting, there was iny 4 people so i fiiled 4 mugs up with water the put them in the kettle :):) 10 February 2010, 12:02kettle
i never overfill my kettle too 02 February 2010, 16:09And the tea goes on...
Well, at our house we make an entire pot of tea with all the water and what we do not drink gets put in the fridge and drunk as iced tea later on. 23 January 2010, 18:19Kettle
We have a kettle that only heats one cup of water up at a time. So we never boil too much 14 January 2010, 18:05too much hot water
working on this one. It's a life time habit to put too much water in the kettle. Usually I'm rushing about doing a load of things at the same time so don't notice how much water is in the kettle. 08 January 2010, 00:10did it :)
i made a cup of tea for my family, like i do most nights, and i didn't over fill it :) 02 December 2009, 19:50kettle

i was making my dad a cup of tea (for money) and for once i didnt overfill the kettle 03 November 2009, 17:20Overfilling
I'm getting better at this, but old habits die hard! When you're cooking or making tea, it's routine to fill it to the top-but I am getting better and now only use a little bit for teas and coffees... 16 October 2009, 11:44don't overfill your kettle
part of the morning routine - it makes sense ecologically & optimises efficiency :-) 14 October 2009, 08:46done this
i only use what amount of water i need for one cup 01 July 2009, 13:29eco kettles
i'm going to buy an eco kettle this week that allows me to use only the amount i need for each drink. Saves water and energy and according to electrical store Curry's they promise "Buy any appliance from us and we recyle your old one for free." so they can have my old leaky one. : ) 09 August 2008, 11:01
Hot Shot
I wish I'd had the foresight to have the hot water on demand spout installed in my kitchen. I missed that boat - so, I got a Sunbeam Hotshot. It heats up a large mug of water very quickly - much faster than running the microwave or heating it on the stove. It also dispenses right into my cup. A quick and easy solution and no waste. 23 July 2008, 11:17
Lots of tea
I drink a lot of tea. And Miso soup too. So I use the kettle a lot and used to overfill it a lot too. But now I have officially stopped overfilling the kettle and shall never do it again. I am very proud to have completef Action 38 and I encourage all you avid tea drinkers to do the same. 27 June 2008, 00:47
